Technology and the Race to Net Zero

With COP26 underway, Jamie Cameron, director of digital solutions at Johnson Controls UK&I, discusses the prevalence of technology in the race to net zero and the fight against climate change.

With the news that the urgency over net zero has sparked a climate tech investment boom, the importance of smart technology is evident.

It’s encouraging to see a rise in investments into technologies to combat climate change to say the least. As COP26 has finally kicked off, the spotlight is on governments and businesses to start making changes to meet decarbonisation commitments.

However, when 40 per cent of the world’s global carbon emissions comes from buildings, it’s not something we can ignore. Thankfully, this is something we can tackle now and technologies already exist that can help us in lowering carbon emissions.

Smart technologies are no longer a gimmick or a flash in the pan initiative and must instead be recognised as a significant vehicle to make a positive impact and advance our sustainability efforts. It’s clear that smart technologies are fundamental to achieve our climate goals.

Investments from governments and businesses alike will be critical if we want to reach net zero.
