Grand Hotel Kronenhof, the iconic travel destination at Pontresina in the Swiss Alps, has installed Philips MediaSuite professional TVs within all 112 guest rooms as part of a major refurbishment.

First opened in 1848, the luxury hotel which is a favourite with royalty and celebrities (notably, the late Sir Sean Connery), offers a blend of modern comfort and holistic wellbeing set within outstanding architecture, and an equally outstanding natural environment.

As part of the refurbishment programme, the owners turned to exclusive global Philips MediaSuite licensee PPDS to bring its guests an advanced, connected TV entertainment solution.

Working with Swisscom and PPDS to deliver a full RF and IP upgrade with hybrid Wi-Fi connectivity across the entire premises, 127 Philips MediaSuite TVs were installed (ranging from 43”- 55”), bringing unrivalled entertainment choice to every guest room, including linear and nonlinear TV and radio channels, integrated Netflix, Chromecast built-in (allowing guest to effortlessly enjoy their own content on the big screen), as well as access to thousands of apps via the Google Play store.

The upgrade to the entertainment system has also been futureproofed to enable fast content and software updates via the exclusive PPDS CMND platform, allowing new features to be quickly added without additional costs, as well as creating personalised messaging for guests and feedback opportunities via the TV. The TVs can also be upgraded to the latest Android software (when available), adding all the latest features, capabilities, and security patches, ensuring a modern and consistent experience in every room without the added expense.

Davide Longo, Sales Manager for Philips Pro TV and Philips Signage Displays in Switzerland at PPDS, comments: "We’re thrilled that guests staying in this iconic hotel are able to enjoy the full benefits Philips MediaSuite to further enhance their experience."

The MediaSuite installations will allow the hotel to update content created by staff and Swisscom easily via CMND and integrate with the hotel’s property management system to ensure complete control and transparency of costs.

Staff additionally benefit from custom messaging capabilities that facilitate easy sharing of information about guests, the hotel and the local city.

Google Chromecast is built into each TV with Netflix made additionally available to bring home comfort to the luxurious setting of each hotel room.

Marc Eichenberger, General Manager of Grand Hotel Kronenhof, says: "The Swisscom and PPDS team were able to develop a complete interactive solution for us. The integration of Netflix and other multimedia apps are a real improvement for our Multimedia System. The support of different media (RF and IP) give us the possibility to deploy a new solution on top of our existing RF infrastructure."
