Appointments, Cleaning & Waste Management, EMEA, Service Provider News, United Kingdom

Mitie has welcomed British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) Chair, Lorraine Davis, as its Director of Cleaning Services.

Davis has over 40 years’ experience in the cleaning industry, working in a number of operational and business development roles in complex environments, such as healthcare and education. In 2019, Davis was appointed to the Chair of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc) - a position she will continue to hold until September 2022.

She has also previously collaborated with the World Health Organisation, as part of the Clean Hospital Group, and the NHS to help develop the 2021 National Cleaning Standards for hospitals. In addition, Lorraine has worked with Public Health England to support with the development of the Covid-19 guidance for Facilities Management.

As Director of Cleaning Services, Davis will develop Mitie’s 'Centre of Excellence'’ training academy and drive the group's innovation-led approach to cleaning, for example with the rollout of technology such as robotic cleaners that use ultraviolet light to disinfect surfaces and sensors that monitor footfall to identify spaces that are used frequently and where cleaning should be prioritised. Lorraine will also work to ensure that Mitie continues to introduce services that not only help keep sites safe, but also support customers’ sustainability goals, such as chemical-free cleaning solutions, as part of Mitie’s Plan Zero commitment.

Jason Towse, Managing Director of Business Services at Mitie, comments: "The Coronavirus pandemic has made clear just how important a clean environment is to create safe and healthy workspaces. Having helped introduce many of the nationally-recognised cleaning guidelines that we now take for granted, Lorraine brings a wealth of experience that will keep Mitie at the forefront of innovation, ensuring we have access to the latest science behind our cleaning services. With offices, retail shops and restaurants reopening, this will help our clients reassure their customers that they’re doing everything they can to keep them safe."

Davis adds: "I am delighted to be joining Mitie. I am committed to ensuring the highest cleaning standards are achieved through delivering best practice and ensuring our management and frontline colleagues receive the very best accredited cleaning training. This training, coupled with our scientific approach as well as the latest technology and innovation, means Mitie customers can have total confidence that they are receiving the ultimate in safe, quality, and sustainable cleaning standards available in the marketplace today."
