Addressing the Hidden Fire Safety Danger in Schools

An innovative new solution addresses safety issues caused by missing smoke stoppers in schools and other buildings where trapezoidal perforated decks and beams are commonly specified.

Developed by Thameside Fire Stopping, Cori-Seal works by applying a patented material over trapezoidal perforated decks to block smoke travelling into emergency escape routes.

Missing smoke stoppers in any roof will affect the means of escape and allow smoke to travel into these escape routes. And as smoke stoppers cannot be retrofitted without major upheaval and costs, the only alternative has been to install a complete seal.

The patented solution which is fire tested has been proven to work at 600°C for 30 minutes and is being targeted, initially, at the 66 per cent of schools in the United Kingdom which were recently rated 'poor' for fixed fire products such as sprinklers by Zurich Municipals.

In the last three years, firefighters have been called to 2,000 school fires (or a staggering 40 schools every month*), demonstrating  the need for action on fire safety within the education sector.

With many schools, and even commercial buildings, lacking compliance products to aid escape during a fire, the product is designed to provide an instant solution.
