The Fisher House Foundation builds homes where military and veterans’ families can stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital. These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world. The Foundation also manages a grant program which supports other military charities and scholarship funds for military children, spouses, and children of fallen and disabled veterans.
Explaining the drive, Tom Watson, SVP of Serco's Defense Services Business Group and the sercoVets Executive Sponsor, said: "The outpouring of support for these military families who are dealing with unfortunate circumstances and hardships is incredibly humbling to see, especially during this unprecedented time.
"There’s no question that we have very generous and caring employees at Serco and I’m honored to be a part of this amazing team."
Chairman and CEO of Fisher House Foundation, Ken Fisher, added: "Fisher House Foundation is grateful for Serco’s generous contribution."
"The employees and leaders of Serco understand the importance of keeping military families together at one of the most critical times – when loved ones are receiving care in VA and military hospitals.
"We thank them for their support."
The amount raised includes individual employee donations which were matched by a US $5,000 donation from the company.
Some 20 per cent of Serco's total workforce in North America are veterans, reservists and/or military spouses, and the company's Employee Resource Group (ERG), sercoVets, provides a support forum to enable them to feel a sense of community and comradery among their peers, and connect, network and grow as professionals. SercoVets offers employees an array of initiatives and activities, transition support, professional development, mentorship and networking opportunities.
