Consecutive Gold RoSPA Health and Safety Award

Health, Safety, Security & Environment, Supplier News, United Kingdom

Building management system project company Comfort Controls has secured a consecutive RoSPA Gold award for its work with Hosking Associates to implement safer practices across its four operating divisions.

Formed in 1984, Comfort Controls works on projects worldwide in a multitude of sectors. The team helps to create energy-efficient buildings that are safe, sustainable and beneficial to their occupants, working closely with its customers to carefully balance their requirements as well as their energy consumption.

Following last year's RoSPA Gold award win, the company's 60-plus employees were redeployed into four newly created divisions (building management systems, controls installations, control panels and service, and maintenance), with the 2020 award reflecting work across each division.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of qualifications, awards and events, says: "The RoSPA Awards scheme is the longest-running of its kind in the UK, but it receives entries from organisations around the world, making it one of the most sought-after global accolades in health and safety.

"RoSPA wants every employee, wherever they are, to work safe in the knowledge that they will be going home unharmed and healthy at the end of every day. The RoSPA Award winners are vital to help achieve this goal, as by entering they are driving up standards and setting new benchmarks for organisations everywhere. Currently, around 7 million people are directly impacted by the RoSPA Awards, but the scheme’s influence is even wider."

Kris Mitchell, Comfort Controls director, said: "We are so pleased to have won RoSPA Gold for the second year running,  particularly following the company restructure.

"We have placed significant emphasis on wellbeing – from both a physical and mental health perspective.

“I am so proud of our staff retention levels, and we continually reflect on the wellbeing of the entire team especially at this current time. We have worked with our specialist consultancy health and safety partner, Hosking Associates, since 2011. They have played an integral and strategic role in our day-to-day practices, and placed real emphasis on the wellbeing of our own team."

Louise Hosking, director at Hosking Associates and a Chartered Health and Safety Practitioner, added: "Comfort Controls are an essential service right now and ensure public buildings including hospitals operate efficiently. The work we have undertaken with them to ensure their overall arrangements in respect of safety, health and wellbeing, is standing them in good stead.

"It has helped create resilience which is needed at this current time. These awards do not just happen and it has taken team work to achieve the gold standard once again."

Comfort Controls has also appointed dedicated health and safety administrator, Jemma Blande , who will serve as a "Wellbeing Champion" across the group. Jemma is currently undertaking a level 6 OSH qualification.

The majority of RoSPA awards are non-competitive and mark achievement at merit, bronze, silver and gold levels. Gold medals, President’s awards, Orders of Distinction, and the "Patron’s Award" are presented to organisations sustaining the high standards of the gold level over consecutive years.
