Blackrock Increases Stake in Carillion

In a regulatory filing to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) today, Carillion PLC reports giant U.S. investment firm BlackRock has increased its exposure to investments that come with potentially exercisable voting rights from less than 5 per cent to 8.26 per cent.

In a regulatory filing to the London Stock Exchange (LSE) today, Carillion PLC reports giant U.S. investment firm BlackRock has increased its exposure to investments that come with potentially exercisable voting rights from less than 5 per cent to 8.26 per cent.

According to the statement, BlackRock's investment in shares that potentially qualify for voting rights accounts for 2.66 per cent of Carillion's total, with securities lending (a class typically includes geared investments and warrants) now potentially representing 5.44 per cent.

Contracts for difference (CFDs are typically higher-risk derivatives) now potentially confer 0.15 per cent of Carillion voting rights.

2014 merger discussions between Carillion and rival Balfour Beatty ended in acrimony, with Balfour's board announced it would be pursue other “value-creating"  opportunities.
