Winder Power Ltd, has today announced its intention to create 5 new apprenticeship positions in their Yorkshire based factory, adding to its already significant presence in Leeds. The leading UK manufacturer of power and distribution transformers and generator equipment is seeking to fill roles right across the company in areas such as transformer erection and winding, substation services and finance. Specialising in the design, build, deployment and management of distribution transformers and power transformers up to 60MVA, Winder Power serve a wide range of customers in the utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors across the UK and internationally and are seeking skilled apprentices to support the company’s growing offering in these sectors.
Apprentices in Winder Power are given an excellent opportunity to take up permanent positions within the company on completion of their training and qualification program, also benefiting from training and mentoring programmes throughout their apprenticeships.
The apprentice positions will bolster the existing workforce of 120 based in Leeds. This will help to bring a new dimension to the company’s capabilities and its commitment to customer service. Winder Power, recently named the best small manufacturer in Yorkshire at the Made in Yorkshire Awards, has been running an apprenticeship scheme for over 30 years, taking on their first apprentices in the 1980s.
The new positions demonstrate the company’s commitment to investing in more resources to facilitate its expansion across the company and meet growing customer demand. It is hoped that the new apprenticeship positions will be filled from local third-level universities and institutions in the Yorkshire region.
Speaking at the announcement, Operations Director, Andy Pinkney, who himself began his career in Winder Power as an apprentice, said: “We are proud to have had a significant presence in Leeds for over 100 years, and today marks our commitment to developing that presence even more. Our apprentices are a tremendous asset to our operations to date and we are particularly pleased to be making this investment to expand our team and, continue our long-standing operations in Yorkshire.”
Today’s announcement follows a significant period of growth and success for Winder Power Ltd, who within the last 12 months have secured major contracts with Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution Ltd (SSEPD) and the Port of Felixstowe in Suffolk, hosted a visit by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, received a RoSPA Silver Award in recognition of its superior workplace health and safety standards, and as above, was named Small Manufacturer of the Year at the 2016 Made in Yorkshire awards.
