ISS UK is delighted to achieve eight Merits in the prestigious International Safety Awards. Five major client contracts were among the internal business units and clients sites to achieve Merit status in in March 2016

The International Safety Awards are organised through the renowned British Safety Council. To gain accreditation, entrants were asked to demonstrate a robust health and safety system on their nominated sites.

This considerable achievement of eight awards indicates increasingly higher and consistent health and safety performance across the ISS estates and client portfolio. Clients in both the public and private sector achieved Merit status to include Edinburgh College, Aintree Hospital, plus five high profile clients in the financial sector.

The International Safety Awards are independently marked by experienced health and safety practitioners and demonstrates commitment to high standards of health and safety management. The Merit status is awarded to those sites which achieve a score of between 48 and 58 marks out of 60 marks.

Richard Sykes, CEO ISS UK & Ireland commented, “Our priority is that our people are safe, healthy and able to return to their families at the end of their working day. This of course extends to the environments and people our clients entrust to us as their FM partner. “We’re delighted to again demonstrate significant improvement in our health and safety which underpins our business strategy.”

Tim Proctor, Director of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality & Corporate Responsibility, ISS UK & Ireland said: "Our journey to excellence in Health & Safety is highlighted by these International Safety Awards accolades awarded by the British Safety Council. It’s wonderful to receive this recognition from an international body dedicated to emphasising the global nature and importance of safety in our business environment. I’m very proud of all of our people and their dedication to our continued, consistent high standards across our organisation."

Mike Robinson, Chief Executive of the British Safety Council, congratulated ISS and their client sites on their success in winning an International Safety Award with merit for 2016: “The British Safety Council the participants on their achievement. The award is in recognition of their commitment and effort to keep their employees and workplaces free of injury and ill health. Our warmest congratulations.

“The British Safety Council’s vision is that no one should be injured or made ill by work, anywhere in the world. Across all of the winning organisations are examples of dedication and hard work to ensure that the risk of injury and ill health is prevented. We commend the winning organisations and urge them to continue working with us to ensure that our vision becomes a reality.”

In 2016 436 organisations won an International Safety Award. These winning organisations span all sectors and are drawn from the United Kingdom, Africa, Asia and the Middle East. 30 organisations were awarded a distinction, 241 organisations were awarded a merit and 165 organisations achieved a pass.

The Merit status means that ISS can also submit entries for industry specific Sector Awards, plus a Health and Safety Champion award. These final awards will be announced at a BSA Gala Dinner in May 2016.
