Climate Change Performance Wins Supplier "A-list" Place
Carillion has continued to underline its commitment to tackling climate change, winning an A grade for climate performance in the latest CDP report (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project).
Carillion was amongst just two per cent of companies to be awarded an A grade in the CDP's Supplier Climate A List. Its new report, entitled "From Agreement to Action," aims to mobilise action toward a climate-resilient world, particularly after the recent COP21 climate change agreement in Paris.
Thousands of companies submitted information to be independently assessed against CDP's scoring methodology. The report focuses on those suppliers demonstrating a superior approach to climate mitigation, and was produced by CDP - the International non-governmental organisation that drives sustainable economies. The work was specifically requested by multinational purchasers who work with CDP to better understand and manage the environmental impacts of their supply chains.
David Picton, Carillion Chief Sustainability Officer said: "Our ongoing commitment to carbon reduction is core to our responsible business - working with customers, supplier partners and wider groups in the communities where we work and live. Climate change is at the top of the agenda after the Paris Climate Summit, but our commitment to carbon reduction has been running for years. Absolutely focused on tackling climate change, we are also committed to open and transparent reporting - which runs to the heart of this Index."
Paul Simpson, Chief Executive Officer of CDP said: "The science and the policy have never been clearer. Greenhouse gas emissions must decrease to net zero as early as possible in the second half of the century. Companies have a vital role to play in implementing the Paris agreement. Those that are unable to do so risk being the losers from this inevitable transition but those that have made the A List are set to be winners."
Robert Francisco, President of FirstCarbon Solutions added: "For many companies the majority of greenhouse gas emissions are found with the supply chain. This achievement is testament to Carillion's partnership with its customers to make the commitment to environmental stewardship and demonstrate a superior approach to climate change mitigation. As CDP's sustainability business process outsourcing partner and supply chain scorer, FirstCarbon Solutions congratulates Carillion for being recognised in the top two per cent of suppliers as part of CDP's 2015 Supplier A List."
