Emerald Brand Green Team members volunteer to make New York a greener city.

Thirteen members of Emerald Brand's "Green Team" joined over 1,100 volunteers in planting 20,000 trees at Rockaway Community Park in Queens on Saturday.  In just under two hours, 20,713 trees and 2,025 shrubs were planted at the former dumping ground.  The planting day was hosted by MillionTreesNYC and sponsored by the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee and the NFL.  This is the second MillionTreesNYC Planting Day that Emerald Brand has participated in and one of many community outreach initiatives the Syosset-based company is currently working on.

As a leader in the sustainability movement, Emerald Brand - maker of Tree-Free towel and tissue products, Earth-friendly cleaners, and compostable tableware - values the importance of giving back to the community.  "For over 15 years we've been saving trees by using renewable alternatives, like sugarcane fiber, to make our paper products," says Ralph Bianculli, President and CEO of Paradigm Group, Emerald Brand's parent company. "It seems only natural that the next step would be to plant new trees for future generations to enjoy, especially in an area that was badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy."

Emerald Brand's upcoming efforts include the Sustainability Careers Panel at Hofstra University, "Mentor for a Morning" at Baruch College, "Paws for a Cause" Halloween fashion show at The Wilshire Grand Hotel, and a classroom reading of The Lorax at Vernon Elementary School.
