Power Analytics™ awarded contract to support military facilities
First centrally managed cluster of microgrids to be deployed by US navy.
Power Analytics Corporation, a leader in the development of advanced electrical power management solutions, has received a contract to help the United States military reduce its energy consumption while improving the security of its electrical supply. Under the auspices of the Department of Defense’s Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), Power Analytics will use its software to create and operate a secure cluster of microgrids at three San Diego area naval bases.
Although single microgrids have proven their value in both commercial and military settings, this will be the first centrally managed cluster of multiple cyber-secure military microgrids. Power Analytics’ integrated enterprise software environment will monitor, control and optimize the three geographically separated microgrids, providing the military with its first comprehensive, real time view of the status of its critical power systems across multiple bases.
“We’re excited to help the Navy maximize the effectiveness of its existing power system and easily integrate more renewable energy sources,” said Karen Cronin, vice president for Power Analytics. “Through this project, Power Analytics will provide the capability to share power resources across the bases, allowing them to have both a more reliable power system and reduced energy costs.”
The funding comes through the prestigious ESTCP, which was established in 1995 to address critical military environmental requirements. This competitive program identifies technologies that are both innovative and cost-effective, and funds their demonstration in operational settings at Department of Defense facilities to show their real impact in improving performance, improving security and reducing costs.
