Emirates Green Building Council to discuss green building performance

10 June "Focus Day" event to be held at Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates.

Emirates Green Building Council (EmiratesGBC) will discuss the performance of green buildings at its next 'Focus Day' on June 10.

Officials and experts from different sectors of the building and construction sector supply chain will share their views on diverse aspects of green building practice.

Adnan Sharafi, EmiratesGBC Chairman, said: "The Focus Day activities of EmiratesGBC discuss various concerns and topics that are aimed at strengthening the sustainable built environment. The latest session will discuss diverse aspects of the green building industry, and the tangible goals that have been achieved. It is important to understand and share knowledge on the performance of green buildings to encourage more people to take up energy and water efficient initiatives, as well as to integrate green building principles from the design stage itself. The initiative is a perfect complement to the UAE's 'a green economy for sustainable development' initiative."

Key topics for discussion include green building efficiency and the feasibility of joint industry-government-stakeholder hubs.

Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council will start proceedings with a discussion of the Emirate's Estidama sustainability programme focusing on empirical analyses of building operational data.

A panel discussion, which will include presentations by developers, architects & designers, contractors, consultants and facilities managers, will discuss the case for a more integrated approach to the design, construction, operations and maintenance of green buildings.

A third session will consider the environmental impact of green buildings through case studies - in addition to functional considerations and steps that may be taken in developing measurably better buildings. The session will be followed by an interactive Question and Answer session with the audience.

EmiratesGBC is currently hosting a membership programme for small and medium businesses in the UAE, to add to its current membership base of over 260 entities representing the entire building and construction industry supply chain.

EmiratesGBC regularly takes part in key conferences and exhibitions to promote sustainable built environments. The Council also hosts a series of initiatives that facilitate industry dialogue and provide educational resources and information on sustainable practices.

The Focus Day event is being sponsored by Majid Al Futtaim (MAF) Properties and The Future Build, and will be open to both EmiratesGBC members and non-members. The venue for the event will be the Sheraton Dubai Mall of the Emirates.
