EMCOR UK is pleased to announce that, between 31 May and 3 June, 2017 - for the sixth consecutive year, it sponsored a team and participated in the 4 day 330 mile London to Paris Bike Ride in support of “Mind”, the UK’s leading mental health charity. Team EMCOR UK is based across the Department of Health’s National Estate and was organised to participate in large scale events to raise money for charitable causes.  The EMCOR UK team raised in excess of £8,000, surpassing its target.

The team, made up of EMCOR UK colleagues and supply chain members, included Mark Allen, Graham Barton, Rashid Chatha, Paul Dyer, Roy Gough, Alex Mckenzie and Mick Pool. Riders departed from Department of Health’s Headquarters at Richmond House in Whitehall, London at 6am on Wednesday 31 May and cycled 78 miles to Dover in Kent. Participants then boarded a ferry to cross the English Channel and arrived at Calais for the second leg of the ride, when they cycled the 74 mile distance to the historic French town of Arras. From there the group travelled 92 miles to Soissons, one of the country’s most ancient towns, which was established in pre-Roman times. Finally, the group rode the 85 mile leg from Soissons to the finish under the Eiffel Tower in central Paris.

Roy Gough, EMCOR UK HSEQ (Health Safety, Environment and Quality Management) Manager for the Department of Health, said:

“I am very proud of my colleagues. We had a group including both beginners and experienced riders all helping one another and displaying amazing team work. It was so gratifying for us all to do something for such a great cause. All of the money we raised will go directly to ‘Mind’.”

Each year, one in four Britons will experience a mental health problem and hundreds of thousands of people struggle with mental health difficulties on a daily basis. “Mind” works diligently to empower people who experience mental health problems, through improved understanding and better management of their conditions. Those affected can benefit from “Mind’s” assistance, the information it provides on condition-management, and its telephone and online support services.
